Prof. Dr. med. Bernhard Hellmich

Prof. Dr. Bernhard Hellmich is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Tübingen. Since 2007, he is the Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine, Rheumatology, Pulmonology, Nephrology and Diabetology at the Medius Kliniken, Campus Kirchheim-Teck and Campus Nürtingen, Teaching Hospital of the University of Tübingen, Germany, a ERN-RITA reference center for vasculitis. Since 2025, he is also Medical Director of the Medius Kliniken.  Prof. Hellmich’s clinical and research interests are in the field of vasculitis. He is actively involved in multicenter clinical trials and cohort studies in different forms of vasculitis. Prof. Hellmich is convenor of the EULAR recommendations for management of ANCA-associated vasculitis (2022 and 2027), large vessel vasculitis (2020 and 2026) and the EULAR recommendations for conducting clinical trials in vasculitis (2007) and lead coordinator of the 2020 german guidelines for management of large vessel vasculitis. Since July 2026, Prof. Hellmich is chair-elect of the EULAR Quality of Care Committee. In 2017, he was congress president of the annual scientific meeting of the German Society of Rheumatology (DGRh).
